Dental Care
Dental care is one of the most neglected aspects of animal health care, yet taking care of dental needs is one of the most important things you can do for the overall health of your pet. At Mt. Holly Veterinary Clinic, annual dental exams and cleaning are encouraged because this preventive care can increase the lifespan of your pet by years.
Dental disease begins with bacteria in the mouth. Without brushing or professional cleaning, the bacteria will harden and form plaque. Long-term neglect of the teeth can lead to tooth and gum decay, resulting in pain and difficulty eating. The constant swallowing of bacteria can eventually result in damage to organs such as the liver, kidneys, and heart.
Dr. Troy Winn and his staff here at Mt. Holly Veterinary Clinic provide complete dental services including preventive care, professional dental cleanings, dental radiographs, and extractions as needed. Following the exam and removal of harmful plaque, Dr. Winn will formulate a home care plan specific to your pet’s needs. This plan may consist of daily tooth brushing, a dental formulated diet, dental sealants, water additives, or treats.
